Spring Semester
Freshman Speaking Exam
Mid-term Test
Introduction
The Freshman Speaking Exam is in the form of an assignment and is worth 20% of your final grade.
In groups of four to five. You are travel agents and must plan an imaginary trip/short vacation for your teacher anywhere in the world or here in Korea. The trip will be for four or five days.
(I would prefer you research a different country than your own but if you do choose to do your assignment on Korea include some detailed information.)
Requirements
Research You must research/find out and present to the teacher:
1) which places she should visit;
2) what kind of trip this is (package tour, all-inclusive) Explain your choice.
3) what sights she will see;
4) how she will get around (taxi, bus etc);
5) what kind of meals she will eat;
6) how much money will she need (in dollars or won);
7) what kind of schedule will she follow.
Be creative and use props to convince me that this is the place that I should go. Remember you are an agent and will get commission by selling me this trip. You can use props but there will be no reading from cue cards.
Evidence. All this information (and additional information if you like) must be provided in a written report with photographs/pictures (one per group). The faster the rough copy is turned in the faster it will be checked and edited for grammatical errors.
Formal Presentation Present the information to me in class along with the photographs. You will be graded on the five to six-minute formal presentation as well as the quality of the evidence. You must demonstrate your organizational and communication skills. Each member of the group must have a chance to speak. You work as a group but will be individually assessed.
Plagiarism: You have several weeks to prepare your mid-term exam. If there is any plagiarism in your mid-term exam you will receive a grade of zero (and possibly a course failure). Please, write your own sentences for your presentation.
